Timeline
Phase 1 - Identify Heritage Values
During Phase 1, Parks Canada invited members of the public to tell us what should be remembered about Abbot Pass Hut Heritage Place. A "heritage place" is more than a building, it's an experience. This heritage place includes the hut, the pass, and the approaches to and from it, and the activities that took place there. In short, we asked what should be remembered about the entire experience of Abbot Pass Hut.
Phase 1 consisted of two activities open to everyone:
- Online Survey - Tell us why Abbot Pass Hut mattered to you and to Canada.
- Idea Board - Share an idea for how to remember this place. (Optional)
The result of Phase 1 was a What We Heard report that outlines why Abbot Pass Hut Heritage Place matters to Canadians.
Phase 2 - Recommend Activities
During Phase 2, Parks Canada worked with interested Indigenous communities, the Alpine Club of Canada and others to recommend how Abbot Pass Hut Heritage Place should be remembered. The "heritage place" includes the hut, the pass, and the approaches to and from it, and the activities that took place there. In short, the whole experience.
Phase 2 included a face-to-face workshop. Public feedback from Phase 1 was provided to the participants of Phase 2.
The result of Phase 2 is a What We Heard report offering recommendations to Parks Canada about how to share what is important about Abbot Pass Heritage Place with people in future. Recommendations may involve collaboration with third parties.
